Process Engineer (Thin Film Coating & Metrology)

Job Summary: The Process Engineer leads improvement efforts, developing and implementing projects to improve yields and efficiencies in the manufacturing process. He/she fosters a collaborative environment and uses their creativity and a methodical scientific approach to solve technical challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of optical thin film manufacturing and metrology processes for yield, productivity and cycle time
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of statistical process control systems, including the collection, analysis, and reporting of process variables and process outcomes
- Contribute to engineering projects, serving as a project leader (set priorities, organize resources, maintain timelines and budgets) as needed
- Analyze defects and failures to determine root cause and implement corrective actions
- Design and perform experiments to support continual improvement of product quality, process reliability, and process efficiency
- Perform risk assessment of process changes
- Assure appropriate documentation pertaining to process changes and qualification of new systems, tools, and processes occurs
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and training guidelines
- Train, coach, and mentor staff in standard operating procedures
- Develop, implement and monitor process controls and assist in the development or implementation of new analysis capabilities
- Assist in new product and/or process introduction into manufacturing
- Communicate in a clear, effective and professional manner
- Support coworkers by helping when it is appropriate

Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years hands-on experience in thin film deposition or related manufacturing processes
- Minimum 3 years hands-on experience in spectroscopy. Specific experience with Agilent Cary or Perkin Elmer Lambda systems an advantage.
- Minimum BS in Engineering such as Materials, Chemical, Mechanical, Optical or Manufacturing or a science related field, such as Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or the equivalent experience
- Demonstrated leadership of leading process improvements in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in Lean manufacturing and Statistical Process Control • Excellent problem solving skills with an analytical and data driven approach
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, listening, teaching, technical writing).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and be part of multi-disciplinary teams
- Familiarity with optical filter manufacturing, applications and product development a plus
- Experience with quality management systems a plus
- Self-directed and detail oriented with ability to multi-task
Physical Requirements:
- Enter data into computer systems and/or produce documents, typically utilizing a computer keyboard
- Close vision for computer work
- Regular, predictable attendance to meet production demands and be available to internal customers
- Ability to communicate with vendors utilizing phone
- Ability to sit and/or stand at work station for extended periods of time
- Ability to work above head occasionally
Work Environment:
- Chroma is a fast paced, collaborative, high tech manufacturing environment
- Work is performed in our cleanroom which requires wearing a lab coat, hair net, dedicated shoes, gloves and a beard net when applicable
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets
