2001: A Cellular Odyssey

Painting of segregating chromosomes in an anaphase cell. The cell is from a wheat plant with an introgressed pair of rye chromosomes 1. Fluorescent in situ hybridization highlights the rye chromosomes (green / FITC filter), rye terminal heterochromatin (magenta / Texas Red filter), and the telomeres of all the chromosomes (white / Cy5 filter). The chromosomes, stained with DAPI, are shown in red. The image is a maximum-intensity projection of 64 deconvolved optical sections taken with a DeltaVision microscope system using Chroma filters. The cell is 25 microns long.
