SCIP Conformance Statement
The EU Waste Framework Directive (WFD) mandated that the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) develop and manage a new database of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs). The resulting database, Substances of Concern In articles, as such or in complex objects (Products) (SCIP), will come into force on 5 January 2021. It is part of Chroma’s mission to meet all of its responsibilities as defined by the WFD legislation.
Submissions to the SCIP database are required for every article at every level of manufacture containing SVHCs over the 0.1% weight-by-weight (w/w) threshold.
An article is “an object which during production is given a special shape, surface or design which determines its function to a greater degree than does its chemical composition.”
Chroma Technology Corporation is a leading manufacturer of optical components for instrumentation used by the scientific and research community, including life sciences, medical research, pharmaceutical research, and astronomy. These components are considered articles as defined above.
At the present time, none of the articles manufactured and marketed by Chroma Technology contain SVHC’s over the 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) threshold. Its customers may be assured that Chroma will continue to monitor ECHA’s Candidate List for any SVHC’s which might be incorporated into the construction of its filters, and as appropriate, include them in the SCIP database.
