Spectral Imaging in Astronomical Objects
Astrophotography uses spectral imaging to measure diverse properties of astronomical objects including molecular composition, ionization state, redshift, and temperature.
At Chroma Technology we manufacture the highest quality, narrow-band spectral line filters for detecting ionized sulfur, oxygen, and H-alpha or H-beta and other elements. Our very narrow passbands provide the precision and accuracy needed to ensure your spectral line of interest is transmitted with almost no unwanted wavelengths, thereby enhancing the contrast.
Our filters have extremely durable, sputtered hard coatings using single substrates of the best glass, eliminating the need for laminations. These coatings can withstand humidity changes and extreme temperature fluxes and remain spectrally accurate in center wavelength (CWL) and bandpass adherence. All primary filter coatings are applied on the front surface and anti-reflection coatings on the rear surface to prevent ghosting and to maximize transmission.

Stargazing unveiled with sputtered coatings for clarity
Our filters have extremely durable, sputtered hard coatings using single substrates of the best glass, eliminating the need for laminations. These coatings can withstand humidity changes and extreme temperature fluxes and remain spectrally accurate in center wavelength (CWL) and band pass adherence. All primary filter coatings are applied on the front surface and anti-reflection coatings on the rear surface to prevent ghosting and to maximize transmission.
All filters may be used with apertures of f/4 or smaller. We provide custom coating services for more demanding imaging applications requiring larger apertures such as f/3 or f/2. We also can provide larger sizes and unique passbands upon request.
