REACH Conformance Statement
Chroma Technology Corp. is a leading manufacturer of optical components for instrumentation used by the scientific and research community, including life sciences, medical research, pharmaceutical research, and astronomy. Our filters are not classified as electronic or electrical equipment as defined in the European Union's Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE).
Chroma’s filters contain, among other things, substrate materials made from various glasses which are composed of many different chemical substances. REACH, however, now treats glass as a UVCB substance** and it is, then, exempted from the REACH Regulation (see Annex II of Commission Regulation 987/2008 for Annex V exemption 11). The chemicals which make up the substrates are fully integrated into the glass matrix through the melting process. The informational duties of Article 33, therefore, do not apply to the glass components of Chroma’s filters.
With regard to the other, non-glass components which make up Chroma’s filters, it is Chroma’s mission to meet all of its responsibilities as defined by the REACH legislation. Our customers may be assured that Chroma will continue to monitor ECHA’s Candidate List for any chemicals that might be incorporated into the construction of its filters. Upon a customer’s request, Chroma will provide the information necessary to assist the customer in meeting its reporting obligations under Article 33 of the REACH legislation.
